Acclaimed Contemporary Artist Gonzalo Pizarro Debuts His First Solo Exhibition at Chasing Rabbits in Vail, CO

In the winter of 2025, after years of experimenting with industrial materials rarely seen inside gallery walls, Gonzalo Pizarro posted a time-lapse video from his studio. Working on a sheet of OSB board, a structural construction panel made from compressed wood strands bonded together under heat and pressure, he painted a fragmented waist-up portrait directly into the surface. The internet erupted.

Within days, the video surpassed 17 million views on Instagram. Artists, collectors, architects, and enthusiasts across disciplines shared the work widely, noting the precision and originality of the approach. OSB board is typically used beneath flooring and behind drywall. In Pizarro’s hands, it became a primary medium. For years, Pizarro had been honing his craft, allowing the natural fragmentation of the board to inform portraits that feel architectural and human at once. The material guides the creation, and in the hands of a true innovator, the fragmented wood becomes image.

Beyond the Viral Moment

In the summer of that year, Pizarro released another time-lapse. This time, a rhinoceros emerged from the same industrial surface. The video has surpassed 20 million international views. Commission inquiries arrived from across the country, filling his calendar for the year ahead. Collectors who had first encountered the work online now sought physical pieces. What started as material experimentation transformed into a highly sought-after body of work.

As the audience grew, so did the conversation around it. The artwork was no longer just being shared. It was being discussed with curators, collectors, and longtime followers asking the same question: when would there be an exhibition?

With a steady flow of commissions, his time was committed to creating work for collectors, leaving little space to pause and assemble a full body of work for public view. Individual pieces moved quickly into private hands. For those who had encountered Pizarro through viral videos, the practice had largely been experienced online. For the first time, the work will be presented together in a solo exhibition in Vail, Colorado. Guests may RSVP to attend or to receive early access to the collection.

The First Solo Exhibition

From March 27 through March 29, Pizarro will unveil a new body of work, presented by Artist Replete. The site for this display is inside Moon Rabbit, the speakeasy gallery space within Chasing Rabbits in Vail, Colorado, presented by Artist Replete. Opening Night will take place March 27 from 7 to 11 pm, with additional showings on March 28 and March 29 from 7 to 11 pm.

This marks the first time Pizarro will showcase a full collection of new work for the public. While millions have encountered his process through social media, in person viewing reveals the depth of his precision and the discipline behind it. The artist has been a ski instructor in Vail for years while developing his technique; he chose to present the exhibition in the mountain town he now calls home.

Guests will experience the collection within the intimate setting of Moon Rabbit while enjoying curated cocktails and optional small plates, with the work remaining central throughout.

Those who RSVP will receive exclusive early access to the full collection before it is unveiled publicly. Whether attending in Vail or experiencing the exhibition remotely, RSVP ensures viewers are among the first to see the work. To receive early access to the collection and attend the exhibition, guests may RSVP via Eventbrite.
