Artist Replete presents "In The Mood" by Chicago street artist Rawooh. Originally created in 2016 in black and white, this piece was recently touched up in color. Getting lost in your thoughts indoors is an ode to the recent covid-19 epidemic.

Raul Ramirez, aka "Rawooh" has been known for years in Chicago for his eye-catching graffiti and mural work. His career began in 2006 as a street artist and later shifted to canvas work as his style began to mature. Some of his favorite mediums are painting on found objects, such as wooden crates. He describes his style as a fusion between comic books and graffiti. Even though he has over a decade of experience in the art world as both a street and gallery artist, he still considers it a “hobby.”Learn more by reading our interview with the artist

The History Behind The Napkins

Outside of the studio, Rawooh would often spend time at bars and jazz clubs alone creating new ideas on napkins. Many of these ideas later became painted works on canvas. The napkin became a foundation for new ideas. At many of the locations he would frequent, his tab would often be waived in exchange for the napkin sketch. An item originally made for cleaning, became a form of currency behind the hands of the artist.

Artist Replete presents: Deception a collaboration between Chicago artists Rawooh & ReviseCMW

About the Artists...

Both artists met back in 2005 during an artist sketch event. Rather than look at one another as competition, they saw the talent in each other. Over the past decade, they have collaborated on murals throughout Chicago and spent many long nights developing their individual styles. If either hears of an upcoming show or event, they always invite the other. The simplicity of it is, they've helped each other grow. However, of all those years they've rarely released any collaboration work available for sale...until now.

The Chicago skyline, reimagined

Raul Ramirez, aka "Rawooh" has been known for years in Chicago for his eye-catching graffiti and mural work. His career began in 2006 as a street artist and later shifted to canvas work as his style began to mature. Some of his favorite mediums are painting on found objects, such as wooden crates. He describes his style as a fusion between comic books and graffiti. Even though he has over a decade of experience in the art world as both a street and gallery artist, he still considers it a “hobby.”Learn more by reading our interview with the artist
