Music becomes both escape and release in Louder Than Silence. A figure wearing headphones appears caught in a moment where sound overtakes the senses, the open mouth suggesting a scream that blurs the line between music and emotion. The portrait is painted directly onto a reclaimed vintage cabinet door panel, allowing the original structure, hardware, and history of the object to remain part of the composition.

 

Working in his signature monochromatic style, Rawooh contrasts stark black and white tones against a vivid red frame. The image captures the intensity of music as an emotional outlet, where internal noise rises louder than silence itself. 

Raul Ramirez, aka "Rawooh" has been known for years in Chicago for his eye-catching graffiti and mural work. His career began in 2006 as a street artist and later shifted to canvas work as his style began to mature. Some of his favorite mediums are painting on found objects, such as wooden crates.

 

 

He describes his style as a fusion between comic books and graffiti. Even though he has over a decade of experience in the art world as both a street and gallery artist, he still considers it a “hobby.”Learn more by reading our interview with the artist
