--
Artist Replete presents "Washed Away" the first sculpture created by Chicago artist Arthur J. Williams Jr. Created in 2021, the artwork is meant to naturally lay on the floor as a playful representation of a crumpled hundred dollar bill. Its ability to lay upright is from a new material the artist is working with.
Learn More about Arthur's past in Our Interview With The Artist
Arthur J. Williams Jr. is a South Side Chicago native who gained notoriety as the counterfeiter who successfully replicated the 1996 hundred dollar bill, producing millions in fake currency before serving twelve years in federal prison.
During his incarceration, he taught himself to paint, transforming his past precision into a new creative discipline. Since his release, Williams has emerged as a full time artist whose work often incorporates printed U.S. currency, exploring themes of value, authenticity, and redemption. His exhibitions, including recent showcases at LondonHouse Chicago and Art Basel, reflect a continued evolution as he turns the art of replication into a study of transformation.
