Ink & Charcoal on OSB Board

48" x 48" (122 x 122 cm)

Framed

Fragments of OSB begin to align into a portrait, though the image never fully resolves. Gonzalo Pizarro builds directly from the material, allowing ink and charcoal to pull certain features forward while others fall away.

A familiar figure emerges in parts, shifting between presence and disappearance. The image feels unstable, as if it could reorganize at any moment. That tension sits at the core of Castles Made of Sand, where structure and erosion exist at once, and nothing remains fixed for long.

Gonzalo Pizarro is a visual artist with a background in architecture. His work is rooted in the use of unique materials, especially those that are raw, industrial, or overlooked. The artist became widely recognized after he posted a video of his work on OSB board that achieved over 14 million views.

Art critics and enthusiast became astonished at the new approach using the compressed wooden board. Pizarro was drawn to creating works on OSB due to the unpredictability and chaos found within the wood.

"That’s where Fragments of Identity begin, with a material that reflects how we’re often shaped by what we can’t fully control. Working with OSB is a negotiation: some fragments support the process, others resist. And that mirrors life, how we build meaning from limitations, from contradictions."
