Virginie Gribouilli reimagines the “Lycaon,” an African wild dog or painted wolf (Lycaon pictus), as a hybrid deity born from nature and myth. Known for its striking patchwork coat and cooperative pack life, the Lycaon’s name comes from Greek mythology, where King Lycaon was transformed into a wolf.
Presented by Artist Replete, and rendered in the artist’s Surrealist style, this rare predator becomes a symbol of unity and resilience, embodying a wild, enduring spirit.
Each sculpture is hand-painted and individually sized, ensuring no two are exactly alike. While some pieces may share a similar appearance, every sculpture is a one-of-a-kind creation, crafted entirely by hand.
Virginie Gribouilli is a contemporary French sculptor inspired by animal skeletons and mythological creatures. Her objective is to ground her style in the building of a new mythology in order to create hybrid deities for an imagined future civilization. She identifies with Fantastic Surrealism and Dark Art movements.
“Sculpture is a way for me to express myself, to convey my emotions and my thoughts about the world. My sensitivity is expressed through my work, and I love working with my hands. The most satisfying thing is to start from nothing, and create a unique object for myself and for other human beings on Earth”
