Artist Replete presents Shining Women, an acrylic painting on printed U.S. hundred dollar bills by Arthur J. Williams Jr. The silhouette of a woman emerges against a soft gold horizon, her form interwoven with delicate geometric lines that evoke both fragility and strength. The subtle presence of currency beneath the surface adds quiet depth, a symbol of refinement, resilience, and inner value. In this work, Williams moves beyond bold symbolism into something more introspective, capturing the quiet radiance of transformation.
Arthur J. Williams Jr. is a South Side Chicago native who gained notoriety as the counterfeiter who successfully replicated the 1996 hundred dollar bill, producing millions in fake currency before serving twelve years in federal prison.
During his incarceration, he taught himself to paint, transforming his past precision into a new creative discipline. Since his release, Williams has emerged as a full time artist whose work often incorporates printed U.S. currency, exploring themes of value, authenticity, and redemption. His exhibitions, including recent showcases at LondonHouse Chicago and Art Basel, reflect a continued evolution as he turns the art of replication into a study of transformation.
