Artist Replete presents "The Rise & Fall of Detroit" by Detroit artist Michael Keum. A recreation of the iconic statue, The Spirit of Detroit. Through relief printing, the artist recaptures the history of Flint, Michigan and the populations displacement through a catastrophic water supply incident
On April 25, 2014, the City of Flint, Michigan changed their municipal water supply source from the Detroit-supplied Lake Huron water to the Flint River. The switch caused water distribution pipes to corrode and leach lead and other contaminants into municipal drinking water.
*The artwork was previously featured in Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)*
Michael Keum is a Detroit based fine artist who became inspired by the age old techniques found in relief printmaking. After being surrounded by city culture for years, Keum began to form the subject matter for his style.
