Artist Replete presents "Branded In Time" a screen print collaboration by Takashi Murakami & Virgil Abloh. 

 

Virgil Abloh and Takashi Murakami collaborated on a series of exhibitions, starting with "Future History" in London in February 2018, followed by "Technicolor 2" in Paris in June 2018, and finally "AMERICA TOO" at Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills in October 2018. That same year both artists collaborated on the release of "BRANDED IN TIME" a limited edition screen print that quickly sold out. 

 

A Quote by Takashi Murakami: "Virgil was following and studying my practices, and it was because he mentioned this to me that I proposed our collaboration. We had also worked together on Kanye’s project in the past. So I only found out that we had very different visual languages after I started collaborating with him. 

 

On the other hand, Virgil’s theme is to continuously bridge over architecture, fashion, music, and others, and mine is to bridge over anime, subculture, art, Japan, and the West, so in that sense I don’t think we are entirely different—in fact, we are quite similar.”

Takashi Murakami is one of the most significant Japanese artists working today. Murakami’s influence on Japan rivals Andy Warhol’s on the United States, and he is known for disseminating and promoting pop art strategies in ways unforeseen by American critics and artists. 

 

Virgil Abloh was a pioneering designer and cultural icon. A trained architect, Abloh founded his own line of luxury streetwear under the moniker Pyrex Vision in 2012, which he transformed into the Milan based fashion label Off-White in 2013. Abloh was appointed artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection beginning in 2018, and was given increased creative responsibilities across the LVMH brand in early 2021.
