Triptych Skateboard
Double Signature
Three 18"x 31"
Artist Proof
Artist Replete presents La Cage et le parfum de la fuite, a triptych skateboard work by Sandra Chevrier created within her iconic La Cage series and translated into a sculptural, multi-panel format. The composition spans three skate decks, each screen printed and intended to be displayed together as a single image within a broader body of work translated onto skateboard decks. Chevrier’s signature approach is fully present, combining hyper-realistic portraiture with layered fragments of comic book imagery that function as both shield and obstruction, reinforcing her ongoing exploration of identity, constraint, and the tension between inner life and external expectation.
The standard edition of this triptych was produced in a strictly limited run of 100 and has since sold out in full. The example presented by Artist Replete originates as a Printer’s Proof (PP), held outside of the numbered edition and retained in the artist’s personal collection.
As this work was never part of the public release and remained with the artist, Chevrier has chosen to identify it as an Artist Proof, reflecting its provenance and separation from the regular edition. Such proofs are produced in extremely limited quantity and are traditionally reserved by the artist, positioning this piece as a rare and distinct example within her skateboard works and the sole remaining version available worldwide.
This work is accompanied by a complimentary copy of Sandra Chevrier’s monograph Cages.
Sandra Chevrier is a Montréal-based Canadian contemporary artist, born in 1983, internationally recognized for The Cages series, a body of work that has become a defining visual language within contemporary urban and pop-influenced art.
Trained in visual and media arts at Université du Québec à Montréal, Chevrier builds hyper-realistic portraits layered with fragments of comic book imagery, using the human gaze as the emotional center of each work. These collaged “masks” reference the superhero not as fantasy, but as a symbol of the expectations, pressures, and contradictions imposed on identity, particularly the roles placed on women in modern society.
Her work has been exhibited widely across North America, Europe, and beyond, including museum and major gallery presentations, and she has produced landmark public works on an architectural scale.
In 2020, Chevrier collaborated with Shepard Fairey on a 12-story mural in Austin, Texas, recognized as the city’s largest mural, further cementing her presence within global contemporary culture. Balancing technical mastery with cultural critique, Chevrier’s portraits operate at the intersection of fine art, pop iconography, and social commentary, offering images that are immediately striking yet conceptually enduring.
