Artist Replete presents "How I Made My First Million" from Chicago artist and former counterfeiter Arthur J. Williams Jr. This is a 1956 ABDick one color offset press painted in gold by the artist. The exact same model Arthur used to print millions of counterfeit dollars out of south-side Chicago.

A symbol of how one man defied the U.S. financial system for nearly a decade. Changing the perception of what is possible through immense devotion.

Added to the piece is a sheet of money, recreating the appearance of how the artist would print millions from the press. The sheet of money is made from a unique fiber that the artist calls "space material" for privacy purposes.

It took Arthur years of trial and error on many different types of paper until he found one that would mold into any folded shape. The material name is in reference to its uses by N.A.S.A.

Arthur J. Williams Jr. is a South Side Chicago native who gained notoriety as the counterfeiter who successfully replicated the 1996 hundred dollar bill, producing millions in fake currency before serving twelve years in federal prison.

During his incarceration, he taught himself to paint, transforming his past precision into a new creative discipline. Since his release, Williams has emerged as a full time artist whose work often incorporates printed U.S. currency, exploring themes of value, authenticity, and redemption. His exhibitions, including recent showcases at LondonHouse Chicago and Art Basel, reflect a continued evolution as he turns the art of replication into a study of transformation.
