Artist Replete presents a historical piece titled "Les Frangipaniers" from French painter, Michel Henry (1928-2016). The artist devoted his career to painting flowers because he saw in them a pure expression of life, light, and emotional beauty. To him, flowers were more than decorative, they were symbols of happiness, sensuality, and harmony. In this particular work the artist captures a still life of Frangipani flowers.

History of The Work

This artwork was originally purchased at the Wally Findlay gallery in Chicago. The gallery also exhibited the work of Michel Henry in New York, Palm Beach, and Paris. The artwork comes with all original documentation from Wally Findlay.

Michel Henry (1928–2016) was a celebrated French floral artist known for his lush, vibrant still lifes that exude emotion and elegance. Born in Langres, France, Henry trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he developed a mastery of classical technique fused with a modern sensibility. His works, often described as visual poetry, are characterized by bold brushstrokes, luminous palettes, and a striking sense of depth, inviting viewers to experience the vitality and sensuality of nature.

Throughout his prolific career, Michel Henry exhibited internationally and earned several prestigious accolades, including the Grand Prix de la Critique and the Gold Medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. His paintings were collected by museums, institutions, and private collectors around the world, solidifying his position as a master of floral art.

The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, The French Government, the Museum of Valence, the Museum of Bogotá and the Museum of Alencon are among the prestigious institutions that have acquired work by Henri for their permanent collections.
