11 Female Artists Will Be Featured In A New Art Exhibition, Downtown Chicago

 

During the month of February a curated group of female artists will be featured in an upcoming exhibition titled “IN HER EYES.” Located off of Michigan Ave, in downtown Chicago, the show will feature both local and internationally recognized talents. Displayed artwork will highlight multiple different mediums from artists in different pockets of the world. Let’s take a moment and learn more about the creatives involved. 

 

JENIA CHER

Female Artists - Jenia Cher
Jenia Cher is an emerging Chicago based artist, who creates imaginative art combining figures, nature, animals, and mythology. Through her work, she tells stories that blend real life and fantasy, drawing viewers to reflect on their own experiences through imaginary worlds.

NAT ORR

Female artists - Nat Orr artwork

A native of Columbus, OH, Nat Orr is a self taught artist that focuses on the beauty of women through explosions of color. Influenced by nature, Nat’s work combines other-worldly hues and striking realism to create an intense and pleasurable viewing experience.⁠

 

DEBBIE SMYTH

Female artists - Debbie Smyth

Debbie Smyth is known for her spectacular stretched thread drawings. Using a hammer, pins and thread, Debbie weaves a network of threads between accurately plotted pins, bringing her characters to life as three-dimensional creations.

 

AGNE MICKUTE

Agne Mickute - Female Artists

Agne Mickute is a Lithuanian artist currently living in Chicago. After spending years working with acrylic as her main medium, Agne began experimenting, which gave way to a new series of work. Her latest collection features plaster on canvas as a unique approach to minimalsitic wall art.

 

RASPY RIVERA

Female artists - Raspy Rivera
Raspy Rivera is a Puerto Rican painter who creates signature faces for different spaces. Inspired by the human race, her unique interpretation of faces is similar to fingerprints in that no two are identical. Raspy’s process requires the act of surrender and encourages trust in the unknown. Through her work, she encourages us to celebrate our individuality and inspires us to find strength in our true colors.




LIXIAN CAI

In pursuit of artistic inspiration, artist Lixian Cai has spent the past few decades traveling extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and most recently, the U.S. The artwork she creates today is inspired by the culture documented from each new place she visits.

 

JENNY VYAS

Females Artists - Jenny Vyas

Highly influenced by beauty in human emotions, Chicago artist Jenny Vyas reveals them through multiple expressions in her work. Her interest in human frailty is depicted in paintings where she creates abstracts of human silhouettes and fluctuating forms. All drawn from reality, personal experiences and memories.

 

ANNA VERTII

Female artists - Anna Vertii

Anna Vertii is a Chicago based artist originally from Ukraine who specialize in acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings. Vertii focuses on creating meaningful portraits and floral paintings that take inspiration from nature and personal moments within the artist's life. 

 

ISABELLE GOUGENHEIM

Female Artists - Isabelle GougenheimBorn and raised in France, Isabelle Gougenheim graduated from the renowned Les Arts Décoratifs before moving to the city of Chicago. Both the city's vibrancy and her extensive global travels have been pivotal in shaping and enriching her abstract artistic creations. 

 

SAMANTHA DECARLO

Female Artists - Samantha DeCarlo

Since the age of 10, Samantha DeCarlo has immersed herself in a life of art. Her obsession from a young age blossomed into attending college at the American Academy of Art, a place that created a core foundation to build her visual personality. Since August of 2021, Samantha has been full time artist with a growing collector base. 

 

VIRGINIE GRIBOUILLI

Female Artists - Virginie Gribouilli

Virginie Gribouilli is a contemporary French sculptor inspired by animal skeletons and mythological creatures. Her objective is to ground her style in the building of a new mythology in order to create hybrid deities for an imagined future civilization. She identifies with Fantastic Surrealism and Dark Art movements.

 

THE FEMALE ART MARKET

The female art market is at a pivotal moment with improving representation at galleries and a growing interest among collectors. Which is why we feel shows like this one can be important in bridging the artistic gender gap.


IN HER EYES officially opens to the public on Saturday, February 8th and will be on view until March 14th. The exhibition is located at 835 N. Michigan Ave, Level 2 inside the Water Tower Place. Gallery hours are from Thursday to Sunday from 1-6pm.
