Sofitel Hotel Collaborates with Chicago Artist Rawooh For Upcoming Bastille Day Celebration
Founded in 1964 in France, the Sofitel brand currently has more than 200 properties worldwide. Rooted in native culture, the luxury hotel celebrates Bastille Day each year with a French themed event. For a powerful centerpiece, Sofitel hired Chicago street artist Rawooh to create a French inspired mural for their Magnificent Mile location. The artwork, which currently sits on curved glass at the hotel entrance, marks Sofitel's second Bastille Day partnership with the artist.
For an image rich in French Culture, Rawooh recreated the symbolic female figure Marianne, a character with omnipresence throughout the history of France. The artist added some light brand work by incorporating the hotels logo as an earring and Chicago stars on Marianne's Phrygian cap, a hat that became associated with the French revolution in 1978.
While most exterior murals in Chicago are found on either brick or cement, this creation is currently one of the only multi-story pieces of street art found on glass. Sofitel's Magnificent Mile location will hold an official Bastille Day event Thursday, July 14th with live painting from Rawooh, an open bar, and a special menu. Use code BASTILLE30M to get 30% off tickets to the event. The artwork will remain up throughout the Summer. See more work by the artist below.
