King of Analog pays tribute to one of hip hop’s most influential voices through the materials that helped define the era that shaped his music. Trip One constructs the portrait of The Notorious B.I.G. by spray painting directly onto a grid of cassette tapes, transforming the physical medium of analog sound into the surface of the artwork itself. The tapes become both structure and symbolism, referencing the mixtapes, recordings, and street culture that carried Biggie’s music through the 1990s.
Rendered in bold stencil style, the grayscale portrait is crowned with dripping gold paint, elevating the rapper to an icon of hip hop history. By combining street art techniques with the nostalgic language of cassette culture, Trip One creates a work that bridges music history and urban visual expression.
Chicago stencil art guru, Trip One began as a street artist in grade school, but as time went on that rush from doing illegal graffiti began to fade. So he shifted his attention more towards canvas work and building custom frames.
